The Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE) is proud to announce the appointment of its new Executive Director, effective October 2025.

This appointment marks a strategic milestone in ACSE’s growth, reinforcing its commitment to research integrity, ethical publishing practices, and global collaboration within the scholarly communication ecosystem. The newly established Executive Director role is designed to strengthen operational leadership and enhance ACSE’s international engagement capacity.

“Maryam has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and strategic insight in her previous role as Director of Communications,” said Dr. Kaiser Jamil, President of ACSE. “Her contributions have elevated ACSE’s international visibility and strengthened its engagement with editorial and research communities. We are confident that her leadership as Executive Director will further advance ACSE’s mission and impact.”

A Strategic Leader in Scholarly Communication
The new Executive Director has been a cornerstone of ACSE’s growth in recent years, leading high-impact initiatives that have shaped global conversations around editorial transparency, peer review reform, and open science. As Director of Communications, she positioned ACSE as a bridge between international publishing standards and the diverse realities of regional research communities.

In her new capacity as Executive Director, Communications & Global Engagement, she will continue to lead ACSE’s efforts to expand partnerships, strengthen communications, and foster collaboration among editors, researchers, and publishers across Asia and beyond.

Beyond ACSE, she serves as Co-Chair of Peer Review Week 2025, playing an influential role in shaping global dialogue on innovation, transparency, and accountability in peer review. She is also a Chef at The Scholarly Kitchen and a member of the Editorial Board of Katina Open Knowledge, continuing to amplify ACSE’s mission through advocacy for ethical, inclusive, and globally informed publishing practices.

Advancing ACSE’s Strategic Vision
In this leadership role, the Executive Director will:

  • Lead ACSE’s strategic communications, partnerships, and global engagement initiatives.
  • Strengthen collaborations with publishers, infrastructure providers, and scholarly organizations.
  • Drive programs and capacity-building initiatives that support ACSE’s long-term mission.
  • Champion research integrity, open science, and responsible editorial practices at both regional and global levels.

“It’s an honor to step into this role at such a pivotal time for scholarly communication,” said Maryam Sayab, Executive Director. “ACSE stands for collaboration, integrity, and community. I look forward to working closely with our members and partners to strengthen ethical, inclusive, and transparent publishing practices across the region and globally.”
